Edge: Microsoft is testing the built-in VPN in its browser

After Opera and Mozilla, Microsoft is also interested in implementing a V.PN integrated directly into your Edge browser. We learn from the XDA developers that the company has started testing a VPN called “Microsoft Edge Secure Network”. Mentioned on a support page added to Microsoft’s official website, this news is coming in collaboration with Cloudflare.

As XDA clarifies, this feature is not yet implemented on Edge and not even accessible on the developer channel, but is only present within the source code where there are references to Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 service. The latter takes on the main functions of a VPN, namely the encryption of our browsing data (in order to make them inaccessible to third parties, including the ISP), but also the possibility of accessing geo-referenced or blocked content in your region or country. .

This private browsing mode will not always be active and you will need to be connected to a Microsoft account to take advantage of 1 GB of data offered, renewable from month to month. On the other hand, most VPNs are paid and it is likely that this premium version will allow you to use more data by purchasing it directly from Microsoft.
