If you’re anything like me, Messages is probably one of the most used apps on your current iPhone or iPad. After all, Messages is the central hub for communicating with your family, friends, colleagues, and even other acquaintances through phone calls and emails. And Messages doesn’t just work with other Apple users, it also integrates SMS, so it’s truly a one-stop shop when it comes to messaging on your iPhone.

But you know how it works: While it’s fun to send your partner a million photos of your kid or pet, or a bunch of memes and links, things can get lost in the shuffle if you want to get something back. And not only that, but the more you send and receive besides text, the more space all those attachments take up. So if you want to keep your best iPhone in tip-top condition, you’ll want to keep all those links and attachments in the Messages app under control with iOS 15.

See all attachments in a conversation thread in Messages

  • Launch Messages on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Tap a conversation whose attachments you want to view.

  • Tap the contact pictures at the top of the conversation.

  • Scroll down until you see Photos, Links, Locations, Documents, and any other attachments in the conversation thread.
  • Touch Show all to see all attachments in a particular category.

  • Touch an attachment to view it.

    If you’ve sent and received a lot of photos, videos, links, or other attachments over time, those things add up and take up valuable space. You’ll want to manage (essentially delete) your attachments in Messages on a regular basis to keep them tidy and reclaim space for more apps or taking more photos and videos.

  • Launch Messages on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Tap a conversation for which you want to manage attachments.

  • Tap the contact pictures at the top of the conversation thread.

  • Scroll down until you find Photos, Links, Locations, Documents, and any other attachment categories listed.
  • Tap Show all.
  • Click Select.
  • Select the attachments you want to manage.

  • Tap Delete.

  • Confirm that you want to remove the attachments when prompted.

    • You will need to repeat this process for each conversation thread you want to clean up.
