iPad Gear: LEVO G2 Deluxe Tablet Stand Review

One of the most common places in my house that I use my iPad is in bed. Whether it’s binge watching videos, surfing the web, or immersing myself in a captivating e-book, I enjoy the comfort of relaxing (and sleeping frequently) on a comfortable mattress surrounded by lots of pillows. Unfortunately, placing my iPad between stacked pillows or contorting my body to accommodate a good viewing angle of the screen while preventing the tablet from slipping is an exercise in frustration. Holding the tablet is fine for a few minutes, but holding it for ten minutes or more is tiring. There is also the real concern of falling asleep and the unsecured iPad slipping and crashing to the ground.

To counteract these issues, I built my own iPad stand years ago using an inexpensive microphone tripod mount and an IK Multimedia iKlip Xpand. ($ 49.99), and while that fixed a number of problems, it wasn’t a perfect solution. First, the base of the microphone stand was not particularly stable (especially with a heavy tablet hanging from the stand’s extendable arm to properly spread out over the bed) and could fall off with an accidental bump. Placing and removing the tablet from the iKlip was also tricky in this precarious position so that the tablet does not slip out of the clip uncontrollably when doing so. Touching the screen would turn into vibrations that would make the iPad rock enough to cause nausea. Finally, although this clever trick achieved my goal, it looked ugly and precariously perched on the side of my bed. So when I found out that LEVO had created a booth that addressed all the shortcomings of my hacky attempt, I was intrigued.

The LEVO G2 Deluxe Tablet Stand ($ 189.99) It costs about a hundred dollars more than my cheapest method, but it is much more functional, stable, and pragmatically attractive. The most immediate aspect of the stand is its incredibly heavy and solid 20-pound base. It is this base that consumes most of the total weight of the product, and for good reason. The bumps and tilts that would normally have caused my homemade solution to crash into the ground didn’t affect the stability of the LEVO G2 one bit.

Assembling the LEVO G2 took less than 10 minutes and did not require any tools (except a penny that was used to tighten a plastic ***** per instructions). However, because the base and materials were packed in a large amount of Styrofoam, small white beads of the material would stick to the base. Blowing them sent them spraying my room like seedlings. Fortunately, a good vacuum cleaner cleaned up the mess.

Besides the stability of the stand, what impressed me the most was its dynamic range of motion. All three axes of space are well catered for in LEVO’s height-adjustable center posts, articulated swing arms, and tilting tablet holder that easily locks into position with the flick of the rear lock lever. It took me less than a minute to secure my iPad to the tablet holder and perfectly adjust the height and angle of the tablet while lying on my bed. No more neck or eye strain, and the set was solid enough to withstand screen bumps with just a touch of vibration.

Since the height of the stand can extend up to over 4.5 feet, the LEVO G2 can be used on workbenches, reclining and reclining chairs, desks, and even treadmills. And while it is currently only available in one color, gun metal, the color choice is neutral enough to match most room settings in which it will be used.

Final verdict

Overall, I am confident enough from my daily experiences using the LEVO G2 to declare that it is by far the best and most flexible tablet holder I have used since the introduction of the iPad. If you want a rock solid tablet stand that accommodates a variety of stable tablet holding scenarios in a very dynamic range of tablet positions and orientations, the LEVO G2 is the first stand of its kind you should consider buying.
