iPhone Tap to Pay will launch in Apple Stores starting today, report says

A new report says that Apple is starting to roll out its new Tap to Pay feature for iPhone in Apple Stores starting today.

Mark Gurman tweeted on Wednesday:

Apple’s touch-to-pay acceptance directly on iPhone will roll out to its stores starting today. It was previously tested at its headquarters store.

As Gurman points out, Apple tested the service at the Apple Park Visitor Center, according to this report:

Apple is already using its new Tap to Pay feature at a specific Apple Store: its Apple Park Visitor Center. The new feature allows users to pay for items in the Apple Store using Apple Pay by comparing their device to a standard iPhone, without the need for attachments as is currently the case.

This feature means Apple store employees can accept payments from iPhones without the need for an additional card terminal on their in-store mobile devices, known internally as ISAAC.

Customers will need iOS 15.5 to use the feature in stores. Gurman did not specify where geographically the feature was being rolled out, or on what timescale. Apple previously said the feature would roll out to Apple Stores in the US later this year, with the rollout already underway.

This means customers can use devices like Apple’s best iPhone, iPhone 13 and iPhone 12 to pay for products even more easily at Apple stores in the United States.
