Today at Xbox Games Showcase Extended, Microsoft announced and released the next global update for Microsoft Flight Simulator, and it’s America again, including its territories.

We also get the reveal of the new Local Legend plane, and that’s the Beechcraft Model 18. It’ll be priced at $14.99 on the official market where it launches today, and it’s made by renowned studio Carenado.

Two more global updates will arrive in August and October.

Then we get news from outside developers today, with Airplane Heaven revealing tons of screenshots of their upcoming DHC-1 Chipmunk trainer aircraft, which was announced yesterday.

The version will also include the Canadian style bubble canopy version over the T.10. The launch is “imminent”.

“We modeled both the long version of the T-10 canopy and the Canadian version of the “Bubble” canopy. You can fly from either cockpit using just the camera controls and the instructor/student pilots will automatically switch between views. choice of military or civilian pilots and there is a good selection of liveries. We’ll also include a simple textured livery for those who want to paint their own.

As already mentioned, the flight model has been fine-tuned to provide a challenging yet stable experience, ideal for getting into dragtails and remember, the DC-3 and Lancaster are coming and they are both dragtails, albeit big ones!

The sounds are real hi-fi gypsy engines and all the cockpit sounds are there. Posted in WWise, the outside sounds are there when the canopy is open. We also recorded the characteristic starting burst of the cartridge.

Peter of Flight Manuals On-Line has kindly allowed us to include a copy of the actual DHC-1 T10 Pilot’s Operations Manual. This generous offer allows you to learn to fly the Chippie as the original RAF student pilots would have done. It is also practical to understand the operation of this aircraft.
