Invasion mode will offer a whole new dimension to the intense drama of the game and add more variety to the tactics players will have to employ to complete their mission. The invading Axis sniper will have the sole purpose of eliminating the player while the Allied sniper will achieve one more objective: to eliminate the invader. Invasion mode will also be available in co-op mode increasing the challenge for the Axis invader as he now has two allies to track down, but offers greater rewards.
Chris Kingsley, Rebellion CTO commented, “Invasion mode is a fantastic addition to the Sniper Elite 5 gameplay experience. A player-controlled invader can act in such different and unpredictable ways, which adds to the challenge level. and further increases the voltage. The player will be informed that an invading Axis sniper has joined their game and from then on it becomes an extremely intense and high-risk experience. “
Chris continued: “For those players who just want a solo experience there will be the option to disable Invasion mode, but we recommend everyone to try it sooner or later. We had a lot of fun in the studio, jumping into each other’s games and finding innovative and stealthy ways to take each other out. “
Invasion mode will offer some unique abilities for both players. The Axis invader can use the Axis forces of the AI to help locate the allied player. Tagging an Axis soldier will enable ‘Eagle Eyes’, which means that if that soldier locates the allied sniper, their last known location will be displayed on the map. The Axis sniper can also instruct nearby soldiers via ‘Stay Sharp’, increasing their awareness. For the allied sniper, each level has invasion phones scattered across the map that the player can use to find out their opponent’s last known location. But beware, as not only can these phones be booby traps, but overuse will raise suspicions and reveal the player’s location.
The successful Axis sniper will receive weapons, items and unlock skins while the allied sniper can earn weapons and skins by defeating their enemy. You can also receive additional XP by activating Invasion mode.
Recognized for its unprecedented tactical sniping experience, Sniper Elite 5 will be available simultaneously on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 4 & 5, Epic, Steam and the Windows Store in 2022. We wanted to create a trailer that evoked a gritty and cinematic-focused feeling, as if it were shot with a film crew in a real location. Technically, we enjoyed the challenge of implementing the Universal Scene Description (USD) pipeline in our offline rendering workflow. It has been a fun creative process and we hope our passionate community of Sniper Elite fans will also enjoy it. ”
