Silent Hill-Esque Lone Survivor 2D Horror Game Gets Free Extended Remake For Its 10th Anniversary

Rejoice, horror lovers! Yes, developer Jasper Byrne and publisher Superflat Games have released a new trailer showcasing their new, expanded version of the 2012 cult hit Lone Survivor, just in time for its 10th anniversary (March 27, 2012). Dubbed Super Lone Survivor, the new version of the game is free to download for existing owners of the original PC title.

Feast your eyes on the new images below…if you dare!

Originally released for PC, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Nintendo Switch, and Wii U, Lone Survivor is an old-school survival horror experience heavily inspired by the Silent Hill series. Although played from a 2D perspective, it has a surprisingly deep set of mechanics (there are multiple endings, for example), an engaging story, haunting music, and a very haunting atmosphere.

Fast-forward to its new Super Lone Survivor iteration, and now we have a ton of additional content that reclusive developer Jasper Byrne has confirmed took “over two years of extra work to rebuild from scratch on a new engine.”

It should be noted that this new content is currently only available on PC, so for those who own the game on PlayStation or Wii U platforms, it looks like they will sadly miss out on this new extended version of the game. Hey?

However, for those on Switch, there is a standalone version of the title, which includes both the remaster and new content in one package, called Lone Warrior, which is still in the works and is currently scheduled for release later this year. .

For more information, here’s an overview of Super Lone Survivor courtesy of Jasper Byrne:

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the original game (March 27, 2012), I’m proud to present the new improved and expanded version of my horror adventure, LONE SURVIVOR, now known as SUPER.

Over two years of additional work rebuilding from the ground up on a new engine and a total labor of love, this new edition of the game features improved graphics and lighting, 8K support and more, ultra-smooth parallax scrolling layers, and a new design. 4:3 with larger art carefully redone exclusively for this aspect ratio (as seen in this sneak peek). It will be very good for those who use old CRTs.

There are new mechanics, new locations, new puzzles, weapon upgrades, and there’s even a new enemy type. There’s about an album of new music. The Steam version will, for the first time, feature full controller support.

I hope to release the Steam version before the summer, so keep an eye out for wishlists as they pile up in the coming weeks. The Nintendo version will ship once the Steam version is nice and stable, so it shouldn’t take long.

Thank you for all the love and support over the last ten years. It is with great pleasure that I bring you something fresh and new! I hope you enjoy SUPER LONE SURVIVOR.

Super Lone Survivor is now available for download on PC.
