Whatsapp: with this new app you can migrate data from iOS to Android and vice versa

Changing smartphones and losing data? The worst nightmare of those who switch from Android to iOS or vice versa. But now everything will be easier.

This Tuesday, via a message from Mark Zuckerberg on Facebook, WhatsApp formalized a partnership with Apple to facilitate the transfer of your Android account to an iPhone. Just as easily as your personal data and settings when setting up a new Apple smartphone from a competitor.

With its billions of active users, WhatsApp seduces smartphone makers and of course Apple could not remain impassive. The Apple brand and Meta have therefore worked to enable the transition to an iPhone without fear of losing secure data under Android, “while maintaining end-to-end encryption,” promises Zuckerberg.

This way you can keep all of your individual or group chat history, photos, videos, documents, settings and profile information (including photos). For migration to be easy, you won’t need to go through cloud storage or iCloud. All that is needed is for the two smartphones to be nearby, on the same Wi-Fi network, or for the Android device to be connected to your iPhone’s hotspot.

However, neither WhatsApp (or Meta) nor Apple will have access to the data during the transfer. Everything remains encrypted from device to device. However, while most of the information will follow your account, some cannot be integrated into the transferred package: payment messages, screen names, call history. And the multi-account remains active if you have distributed it with the same number on another device.

This feature is already being deployed in beta and will be deployed in the next few days for all compatible devices.

Before installing the new WhatsApp account on your iPhone, make sure you have the correct operating systems and versions installed on the different devices:

Finally, remember that the data remains stored on your Android smartphone until you delete the app or restore the phone.
