Presentation and specifications

The Xiaomi 12 Lite arrives a bit later than the rest of the 12 series. Along with the completely revamped, boxy and modern design, it brings an upgraded 120Hz OLED panel, a better 108MP main camera, and faster charging. The phone is powered by Snapdragon 778G which is up to the task.

The 12 Lite is also one of the first Xiaomi phones to feature Android 12 under the company’s MIUI 13 interface.

Another notable update is the selfie camera. It has a higher resolution of 32 MP, but more importantly, it offers autofocus. It’s an extremely rare feature these days, and even most flagship devices skip it. We found it great, but confusing as even the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro have the same 32MP shooters, but with fixed focus. Selfie lovers, rejoice!

It’s good to see the company being able to scale the upgrade around the $400 mark, especially since so many of the competitors have dramatically increased their prices. And if the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE is to be believed, the price drops will come sooner than expected. Furthermore, there are not many compact options and the Xiaomi 12 Lite seems to target a portability-seeking audience. After all, the 6.55-inch diagonal is quite compact in 2022. In addition, the 12 Lite offers a light and slim design.

Unboxing the Xiaomi 12 Lite

The device comes in a standard retail box containing the usual user manuals and the appropriate 67W wall charger. Of course, the USB-A to USB-C cable is also used not only for charging, but also for data transfer.

Xiaomi has included a transparent silicone case that does not hide the design.
