Xiaomi Smart Band 7 could have Always On Display, GPS, smart alarm and more
The Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 6 was announced at the end of March last year and featured several major updates, including a larger screen and SpO2 tracking. It’s March again and a detailed leak reveals what to expect from the new model. Please note that this information was taken from earlier band firmware (found in the Zepp app) and the final product may differ.
Let’s start with the screen. Version 6 has a 1.56-inch pill-shaped screen with a resolution of 152 x 486 px (or a pixel density of 326 ppi). The new model, the Xiaomi Smart Band 7 will have a resolution of 192 x 490 px. Note that the vertical resolution is essentially the same, but the horizontal resolution is higher; this suggests a wider screen. We expect pixel density to stay the same because it’s that magic “Retina resolution” number.
Also, some clock faces have an Always On version that shows the time. AOD is one of the advantages of Xiaomi smartwatches over bands, largely because it puts a strain on the battery. A wider band can accommodate a larger battery, but not enough to offset AOD consumption. Still, it’s great to have the option.

GPS is another important feature that Xiaomi bands lack (some competitor bands have it), current bands rely on your smartphone for positioning data. Smart Band 7 can support GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou. “May be compatible” as the Mi Band 5 Pro (which was supposed to have GPS) has been cancelled. If version 7 has positioning, it will offer several modes: All Satellites (more accurate, more power intensive) or GPS + other constellation (less accurate, but less power intensive).
Coming back to the battery, there will be some power saving modes, which will disable certain features. One of the modes will only keep the basic step counter and sleep tracking in the background. The Mi Smart Band 6 offered 15 days of battery life, the 7 will probably target 15 days as well.
Another feature mentioned in the leak is Smart Alarm, which waits until you enter a light sleep before waking you up. This feature was available in the original band, but was removed and not seen in later versions.
NFC is not mentioned, Xiaomi usually offers this in a separate version of its bands (available in China and usually released globally as well).
