Key features of the Lifeforms update include:
- 48 new buildings – 12 per life form: players will start off with the option of being a small selection of buildings, but as new species are found and researched, more will become available.
- 72 new technologies for species – 18 for life form: man as players progress through the new content, they will unlock life form-specific tech trees, which can be compiled for further combat, exploration, manufacturing skills, and more, and influenced to branch out in any number of ways based on the different species that they discover.
- 2 New Resources: new resources, life forms and food must be carefully balanced. Players must farm life forms to unlock species-specific technologies on their planet, but to keep life forms thriving on their planets, players must manage food production. If life forms consume too much food, too quickly, they will eventually starve and begin to die out. Unlike food, life forms cannot be transported or stolen but can be destroyed when a planet is successfully attacked.
