Android 13: all the news revealed by Google

During last night’s conference, Google officially presented the new features of Android 13 beta 2. Let’s find out the most interesting news that await us!

Greater control over privacy and notifications

Android 13’s most important focus is on notifications. From now on, an app will have to ask our permission before showering us with small incentives to visit it. You thus pass from an opt-out logic (you are automatically registered and you must deactivate notifications) to that of opt-in (you must accept to be subject to notifications). A real revolution and, we hope, a real daily time saver.

In the face of iOS 15 and iPhones, Android is often accused of being less than respectful of privacy, which is why Android 13 has therefore emphasized this point.

Android 12 has already focused heavily on privacy but the new version wants to go further by adding some interesting options. The first is quite simple: so far, when you give an app permission to access your files, you can’t filter the exposed data. Android 13 will now separate local file access into two parts: “Photos and Videos” and “Music and Audio”. In this way, an application that deals with sound, for example, should not have access to the images of our holidays by the sea.

Still in the context of permissions, Android 13 will reduce the number of apps that can access the location. In addition, the clipboard history will be regularly cleared, to prevent apps from accessing confidential information.

Finally, on the security front, the future update includes a new menu entirely dedicated to this topic.

Customization and Material You

It goes without saying that the most welcome novelty on Android 12 is Material You and its Monet system, which allows you to adapt colors to the background. Google is well aware of this.

The Mountain View company has therefore decided to solve Monet’s main concern: now, applications that do not belong to the Google suite will be able to benefit from this color customization. The result is direct: a more coherent and aesthetic welcome screen.

The media control has also been revised to further customize the experience.

Multimedia controls and apps

Another small niche feature: each app will eventually work with a different language, previously chosen by the user. For example, if you communicate in English with your loved ones, but speak Italian at work, you can decide that the personal communication app works in English and the work app in Italian. Useful to a few, but always useful.
