‘Overwatch’ open beta will not include competitive play

Many of you are probably excited to try the expected open beta phase from Overwatch. However, as expected in these cases, Blizzard has officially confirmed that players will only be able to access part of the end game experience.

The company has confirmed that competitive gaming, unlike in the closed beta, will not be available in the open beta. The information was released by the game director, Jeff Kaplan, who on the official Overwatch forum wrote “We have been reading community comments and taking them with our hearts. As a result, we have temporarily disabled competitive play for the open beta so that we can continue working on the system until it is better.”

Kaplan said the company’s current plan is to reorganize the current game concept competitive, so that open beta players do not experience the same negative situations that those who were present in the closed beta went through. In this way, while players enjoy the open beta the May 5th until the May 9the company will continue to make changes and improvements to competitive play.
