Microsoft encourages Sony and Nintendo to encourage cross-platform play

In recent weeks the pages dedicated to the news of Xbox and PC They have spoken at length about the strategy of the giant Microsoft by launch your games on both platforms and allow cross-play between themso that sagas like Forza Motorsport or Gears of War could be played online on an Xbox One or Windows.

It seems that the Redmond company wants to go further and would have publicly invited Sony and Nintendo to work on cross-play in multiplatform titles and that all users can play with each other regardless of whether they do so on a PlayStation 4, an Xbox One or a Nintendo NX.

We have the best example in Rocket League, a very popular game in the online world that relies on cross-play on Xbox One and PC. Microsoft assured that it has invited other companies to join the initiative and that it is something it wants to encourage in other titles.

We have rarely seen examples of cross-platform play except for a couple of rare and unsuccessful examples, some genres like shooters don’t seem very suitable due to the great difference in control between a controller and the keyboard and mouse combination, so it is difficult to think of a cross-platform Call of Duty or Destiny, although others like Fifa or Rocked League itself could make more sense.

What will Nintendo and Sony do about it? Will they support Microsoft in this crazy venture or will they want to keep their networks private? Is it all a trap or a complex conspiracy to control our minds? Only time will tell.
