One in seven mobile phones breaks down in the year after sale

One in seven mobile phones needs to be repaired within a year of sale. Motorola and Sony Ericsson scored particularly poorly.

Bad results
The British consumer magazine Which conducted a satisfaction survey. The results are devastating: of the eighteen million mobile phones sold last year, two million broke within the year. Most had to be returned for repairs after less than twelve months.

1 in 7
Motorola and Sony Ericsson score the worst. 1 in 5 devices returned to the manufacturer within a year. Nokia and Samsung do better with a result of 1 out of 10. “Too high a figure,” says Malcom Coles of Which.

Priority
Motorola has already responded to the results and pledged to make quality improvement a top priority.
