Ubisoft will fight with EA for the rights to the word “Ghost”

Ubisoft has objected to the application of Electronic Arts for register the word “Ghost” in relation to video games, since the French developer has a shooter series known as Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon, for which Tom Clancy once became a screenwriter.

As confirmed in an official document presented and shared through Neogaf, Ubisoft believes that “it is likely that consumers may mistakenly believe that the goods and services that the applicant offers under your brand are promoted, sponsored, endorsed or approved by opponents or are in any way affiliated, connected or associated with opponents.”

In more direct language, Ubisoft is concerned that consumers will take any upcoming game or service from Electronic Arts as part of the current Ghost Recon franchise. In fact, it is currently in development the next installment of the series which will be released on PlayStation 4 and other platforms under the name Ghost Recon Wildlands.
