The Honeycomb update for the Dell Streak 7 is definitely the best thing that could have happened to the tablet. Android 3.2 not only ensures more performance but also significantly better battery performance.
We had the opportunity to take a closer look at the new streak at the IFA and are thrilled. The tablet responds very smoothly to input and despite the relatively low resolution of 800×480 pixels for Honeycomb, the tablet is really fun. With Honeycomb, nVidia’s Tegra Zone is now preinstalled, so that the top games can be played on the Streak 7 without any problems.
With the update to Android 3.2, Dell’s Tegra 2 tablet can finally show what it’s made of.
The two benchmark programs AnTuTu and Vellamo also reinforced the good impression. In the AnTuTu system benchmark, the streak achieved a very good 4959 points, and in the Qualcomm web benchmark Vellamo it even achieved a top result of 1065 points.
With the Honeycomb update, the battery life of the Streak 7 also improves significantly: the 2780 mAh battery now offers up to 8 hours of video playback and standby times of several days.
The Honeycomb update is installed over-the-air, but you first have to back up all data using the pre-installed backup software from Nero (or by hand). The update then flattens the device and you can import the personal data again via the backup. Existing apps and app data such as scores are not included. Dell says the update will be rolling out in the coming months, so it may be a few weeks before you can enjoy the new Android on your Streak 7.
