Introduction of Yahoo’s own music service postponed

Yahoo has been developing its own online music store with accompanying media player together with MusicNet for some time now. According to some sources around the project, Yahoo wanted to launch the software and the store this week, but that won’t work and that is why the introduction date has been pushed back to the end of the month.

Spokespeople for MuscNet and Yahoo declined to comment. If Yahoo has introduced its own music service, this could have major consequences for Apple’s iTunes Music Store and some other major providers. Because Yahoo already has a large community around services like streaming music and video, it’s also likely that people will switch to Yahoo’s music store as well, according to a Gartner analyst. On the other hand, Microsoft and Sony have not been able to seriously reduce the use of Apple’s iTunes.
