Hosts Kiki Wolfkill and Jordan Mechner received the award “on behalf of Konami and Kojima Productions.” Many fans wondered why Hideo Kojima didn’t go on stage to receive the award and mainly if Konami’s lawyers They had something to do with this. It turns out that the Japanese creative rejected the offer to receive the award, according to stated one member from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences before Polygon.

These were the words of said member of the academy about what happened during the awards:

Konami was unable to send someone for the awards and Kojima-San preferred not to accept it himself. The Academy thought the solution of having presenters accept the award on behalf of the companies was best for all parties.
