Genesis Nitro 950 gaming chair test

It all started with mice. And the keyboards. Perhaps these two peripherals were the first that were thought to be useful if designed specifically for games. Then one manufacturer after another got in line, and different gamer stuff appeared. Continuing the line with headsets and who knows what else. All of this has expanded to the point that today various vitamins are offered with the “gamer” designation, but you can even buy gloves so that the frag does not depend on the grip of your hands when moving the mouse. Well, gamer furniture also appeared. There are chairs, tables, and even wall shelves and storage, but we can also buy a cup holder on the edge of the table, just so that if we get thirsty while playing, we have our favorite drink at hand.

So we have come a long way from the first gamer accessories to the point where a gamer chair can be said to be completely common today. Which, if we look at it strictly, is not such a new type of furniture: I believe that the more serious office chairs and executive leather armchairs have been given a slightly younger look, and depending on the price range, these products may have been designed with different materials. Our present article is also about one such, namely the Genesis Nitro 950.

The range of the manufacturer, which typically offers low-priced but high-quality products, includes a total of 15 chairs in 3 product lines, and we were able to try the top model of the Nitro series. I didn’t envy the poor courier who brought it out, because he had to carry a box weighing around 25 kg. From which the smaller and larger parts emerged one after the other. Of these, with the help of the attached pictorial description, approx. the chair was assembled in half an hour, and no help was needed, everything could be solved by myself. A tool was also included for the screws, and there were a few spare parts left (of course, you have to think of screws here, not e.g. an extra armrest 🙂 ).

It was already felt during assembly that it was a massive thing, the designers did not skimp on the material. Well, instead of plastic in a few places, I could have imagined something else (wood for the armrests and possibly the plinth), but let’s not be insatiable. After the last assembly step, fine-tuning could follow. The height of the seat can be adjusted with the usual gas lift solution, between 50-55 cm (for this reason, the chair is not recommended for shorter people, the manufacturer also states a height of at least 160 cm, and the maximum body weight can be 150 kg). The height of the armrest can be adjusted, and it can be moved and rotated in four directions in the horizontal plane. So everyone can find the optimal position for them. The backrest can also be tilted, and you can even swing it if it is not fixed – although the spring in this direction is quite strong.

Finally, we also get two pads for the Genesis Nitro 950. One can be placed at the waist, which turned out to be very practical and comfortable for me, but after a while I preferred to remove the other pillow, which served as a headrest – either I sit with a disability, or I just have to get used to it, but it only caused neck pain. They are filled with memory foam anyway.

Stability is provided by a five-pronged base with massive wheels at the end, which can also be fixed separately. So anyone who might be bothered by the chair rolling while playing can fix the position by switching the lever at one or two wheels. This function just bothered me (once I think one of my children changed it, and then I didn’t understand why the chair rolls with difficulty…), so I didn’t use it. However, rolling while sitting in the chair is a great experience, it slides very smoothly on the floor.

After the appropriate settings, the chair proved to be comfortable, and I had no problems with it after spending a long time in it. I can’t really question the durability of the mechanics, the main parts are made of solid metal, at most their cover is plastic. It will only become clear over a longer period of several years how durable the “eco leather” is, whether it will last for up to 10-20 years like a cover made of real leather, or, like artificial leather, it might start to crack after a few years. And for those who are bothered by the chair sweating in the summer, it might be better to look for a chair with a different type of cover.

During a few months of testing, I got to know a comfortable and well-designed chair in the person of the Genesis Nitro 950. I’m not saying that it couldn’t be made even better, but that would be strongly reflected in its pricing. It is offered on the manufacturer’s website for 239 euros, while it is available in domestic stores for 100-120 thousand forints.
