I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before, but as much as I love my iPhone 13 Pro, I miss the days when I could easily use my iPhone with one hand. If you’ve ever seen me in person, I’m pretty petite, and yes, my hands are pretty petite too. This makes it almost impossible to use my iPhone comfortably with one hand, especially when I want to take a selfie, which is why I have become dependent on phone grips.

Now when you think of phone grips, you probably think of PopSockets. It’s no mystery why: the brand is almost everywhere and has so many designs, including many popular franchises, that you can easily change them on the fly. But not everyone is a fan, and some people prefer a ringtone instead of a PopSocket.

I’m a big fan of Sonix products, especially their MagSafe phone cases, so I decided to check out the Detachable Magnetic Phone Ring. This is what it looks like to me, as someone who religiously uses a PopSocket PopGrip MagSafe on an iPhone 13 Pro.

Bottom line: This phone ring uses super strong self-aligning magnets to attach to your MagSafe phone. It acts as a grip and phone stand, and easily rotates 360 degrees.

You can get the Sonix Detachable Magnetic Phone Ring directly from the Sonix website, as well as from Amazon. If you buy from Sonix, it’s $25, but oddly enough, it’s a bit more than Amazon with a regular price of $30. However, at the time of this writing, you can get it for 10% off at $ 27. The Sonix removable magnetic phone ring is available in three colors: gold with clear rhinestones, silver with clear rhinestones, or gold with rainbow rhinestones.

The Sonix Detachable Magnetic Phone Ring is made of what looks like a metallic material, similar to other phone rings out there. It features a circular design with the Sonix logo engraved inside the circle and a smaller ring inside adorned with rhinestones. On the back, you’ll see a black rubberized backing, which I assume hides the magnets underneath. One of the best things about the Sonix Detachable Magnetic Phone Ring design is that the center of the ring is blank, allowing the Apple logo, or even your favorite case design, to show through instead of being covered. .

The circular design allows the Apple logo or case design to show through rather than be covered.

Because this phone ring is magnetic, it virtually self-aligns when you place it near the MagSafe magnets on your iPhone 12 or iPhone 13, as well as any compatible MagSafe case. When you have it close to the MagSafe magnets, it just clicks into place and is just as easy to remove. You can also position the Sonix Detachable Magnetic Ring Phone in any orientation; no matter how you place it, the ring will always snap into place and stay in place.

The smaller ring, which you run your finger through, has multiple axes for a full 360-degree rotation. Combined with the freedom to position the phone grip in any orientation, there’s plenty of wiggle room to find a position that works for you.

The magnets are quite strong and the ring is sturdy which makes it a good stand if needed.

The ring itself is also very sturdy so it can also be used as a phone holder which is perfect when you are somewhere like on a plane. When you use it as a phone grip, the ring should not move while holding the device as it needs a little force to twist or turn. If you like to hold your device while juggling a million other things in your hands, Sonix’s detachable magnetic phone ring magnets should be strong and secure enough for you to do so, but that also depends on the size of the case. of your phone. you use (more on that in a bit). It reminds me a bit of the Loopy cases, except instead of silicone it’s metal, it’s magnetic, and it’s pretty compatible with other cases.

While there are people who prefer these ring grips to something like PopSockets, I actually lean towards the latter. The main issue I have with all of the ringtones, including the Sonix Removable Magnetic Ringtone, is the fact that they just aren’t that comfortable. It digs into my skin while I’m wearing it, especially when I’m trying to take a selfie. It also takes more time to find the “sweet spot” when it comes to positioning, and then you have to remember to do it every time you want to use it.

It’s still a ringtone, which may not offer the most comfortable grip, especially when compared to PopSockets.

For me, I still prefer my MagSafe PopSockets PopGrip because it’s simple and comfortable for everyday use, without having to move around to find that sweet spot every time.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that the strength of the magnet varies depending on the case you’re using. For example, the Sonix Detachable Magnetic Phone Ring is super strong and secure with my Sonix MagSafe iPhone 13 Case, but it seems like less force is needed on something like Apple’s iPhone Silicone Case. So while you can use Sonix’s detachable magnetic phone ring to hang your iPhone 13 on your finger while carrying a bunch of other stuff, I’d be wary of doing it with a softer-touch case, or even a bare iPhone.

Finally, there’s no denying that the Sonix Magnetic Detachable Phone Ring looks a little more girly with the rhinestones. If that’s not your thing, then you’ll want to look elsewhere.

Phone grips aren’t new and there are plenty of great options out there, especially if you’re looking for the best MagSafe accessories. My personal favorite is PopSockets PopGrip for MagSafe. Although this thing is a bit large and will cover a good portion of your favorite iPhone case, it’s so incredibly practical that I’m willing to pass it up. Since it’s MagSafe compatible, it’s a breeze to snap on and off, and like all PopSockets, expanding and collapsing it when you need the grip is a simple matter. Plus, PopSockets have so many awesome colors, patterns, and even designs, so interchangeability is a must if you want to match your outfit or show off your favorite pop culture references.

If you don’t particularly care for MagSafe, but still want a better grip on your phone, you might want to consider the Loopy case. Not only are these cases incredibly protective, but they also come with a silicone loop, which you can also change to different colors and patterns, making it incredibly comfortable to hold and use. You also don’t have to worry about it coming loose as you go through the case and it’s pretty secure.

Another option is Speck GrabTab. This uses adhesive to stick to your iPhone or case, and has a tab that pulls out and turns into a loop for you to run your finger through, acting as both a grip and a phone stand. It also allows for wireless charging as it is slim enough which is good. Don’t expect it to be perfectly flat again.

Sonix Detachable Magnetic Phone Ring: Should You Buy It?

    You should buy it if…

You should not buy this if…

For those looking for a shiny, magnetic ring, the Sonix Detachable Magnetic Phone Ring is a good choice. It comes in a few different color options with fancy rhinestones for that bling bling effect, and it attaches via magnets so no adhesive is needed. Magnets make it easy to snap on and off when not needed. The ring is 360-degree rotatable and self-aligns regardless of position, giving you plenty of options when it comes to finding the right grip. And it stays securely in place in most cases due to the sturdiness of the ring, which also makes it easy to use as a stand.

    3 of 5

However, if you generally don’t find phone rings comfortable to wear, the Sonix Detachable Magnetic Phone Ring will be no different. The metal ring digs into your finger when you wear it, which is not the most pleasant experience. And while I appreciate the colors on offer, I know it’s not to everyone’s taste. And it also seems that the magnets in the ring work better with some cases, as soft-touch materials like silicone make the magnetic grip a bit weaker than hard plastic or TPU cases.

    Sonix Detachable Magnetic Phone Ring

Bottom line: This magnetic phone ring is stylish and gives your phone a bit of sparkle, but it might not be for everyone.

How AirPods Pro proved that Apple could keep the secret without destroying the products

Apple, a company famous for its secret product development cycles, changed everything when it decided to work on a pair of noise-cancelling headphones. According to one of those involved in the decision to think differently, the result was the 2019 launch of the popular AirPods Pro.
