Sony does not get the rights to “Let’s Play”

We recently told you that Sony has processed an application to register the term Let’s Play with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

However the application has been rejected because it is a “too general” term that is currently used by many people to record themselves playing videogames. Of course it refers to the phenomenon of Stream and YouTube, platforms where users from all over the world use the term.

These are some of the words of the patent office from United States:

As shown in the accompanying evidence, the term “Let’s Play” is used in regards to video games to refer to “a video, or less commonly, a series of screenshots, documenting a walkthrough of a video game, almost always including comments.” by the player” and “Let’s Play” (sometimes called “Learn to Play”); one or more people who record themselves playing video games through videos or screenshots.
