Who is Deoxys in Pokémon Go?

Source: The Pokemon Company

One of the more unusual Pokémon, Deoxys was formed by the mutation of an alien virus in space. It takes different forms: Normal, Attack, Defense and Speed. Each form has a different shape and different stats, but they are all the same base type and colors.

Where the forms really differ is in their movements:

This means you may need to adapt your counter teams a bit depending on which form you’re up against. This guide is specifically for his normal form, but in case you were wondering what his other three forms are like:

What are the best counters for Deoxys in normal form in Pokemon Go?

A pure Psychic-type, Deoxys takes more damage from Bug, Ghost, and Dark-type attacks. He is capable of dealing psychic, normal, and electrical damage. Since there are now Mega-Evolved Pokémon for each of their type weaknesses, this is one raid you’ll want to coordinate with your fellow trainers if it’s safe to do so.

mega gengar

Source: The Pokemon Company

The best of the best, Mega Gengar is an excellent option for a Ghost-based offense in this raid, assuming you have Mega Energy to spare. As a Ghost- and Poison-type, he will take super effective damage from Deoxys’ Psychic-type attacks, but is resistant to Normal-type damage. If you bring a Mega Gengar into this raid, you’ll want them to know Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball and remember to coordinate with your fellow trainers if it’s safe to do so.

mega hound

Source: The Pokemon Company

If you don’t have enough Mega Gengar Energy or are better equipped for a Dark-based offense, Mega Houndoom is the best Dark-type Mega Pokémon to take on Deoxys. As a Dark- and Fire-type, it resists Psychic-type moves and has no relevant weaknesses. Snarl and Foul Play are the ideal moves for Mega Houndoom here, and again, coordinate with the rest of your Raid group if you can.

darkrai

Source: The Pokemon Company

The Gen IV Mythical Pokemon, Darkrai, may look like a ghost, but it’s actually a Dark-type, and despite being a Mythical Pokemon, it’s widely available. It resists Deoxys’s Psychic-type attacks and for other forms it resists Dark-type damage and has no weaknesses for Deoxys to exploit. If you bring Darkrai into this raid, you’ll want him to know Snarl and either Shadow Ball or Dark Pulse. Dark Pulse works best, but if it’s paired with a Mega Pokemon, you’ll want to match its type.

mega-absol

Source: The Pokemon Company

Another great option for a Dark-based offense is Mega Absol. This pure Dark-type has no weaknesses that Deoxys can take advantage of and resists Psychic-type damage. You’ll want to coordinate with your raid party, if safe, to get the most out of Dark-type Mega Boost, and your Mega Absol should know Snarl and Dark Pulse.

Mega Gyarados

Source: The Pokemon Company

While not quite as capable as Mega Houndoom or Mega Absol, Mega Gyarados is still an excellent choice for leading a darkness-based offense. As a Dark and Water-type, he will take increased damage from Deoxys’s Electric-type moves, but is resistant to his Psychic-type moves. Bite and Crunch are the best moves for this Raid, and if you can coordinate with the rest of the Raid group, it will boost other Dark-types on the field.

Giratina (Origin Form)

Source: The Pokemon Company

A region of Sinnoh Legenday, Giratina is another great counter to Deoxys, but more specifically his Origin Forme. Giratina’s Origin form hasn’t been available as often as its Altered form, but they use the same Candy. As a Ghost- and Dragon-type, it resists Electric- and Normal-type damage, and has no weaknesses that DNA Pokémon can exploit. Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball are the moves you’ll want your Giratina to know.

Chandelier

Source: The Pokemon Company

Originally found in the Unova region of Gen V, Chandelure performs very well against Deoxys. As a Ghost and Fire-type, Chandelure has no relevant weaknesses for this fight and resists Normal-type damage. His first stage, Litwick, has appeared in multiple events, so most active players already have at least one or two boosted. Hex and Shadow Ball are the perfect moveset for this Raid.

Hoopa (unbound)

Source: The Pokemon Company

Hoopa, the Mythical Pokémon, is a great counter to Deoxys in any form, but Unbound is the best option for this raid. It’s Psychic and Dark-type, so it takes less damage from Deoxy’s Psychic-type attacks and has no relevant weaknesses. Unfortunately, Hoopa had an extremely limited availability of one per account and only after completing a long special quest. Also, it takes 50 Candy and 10,000 Stardust to change form. If you have it though, Astonish and Dark Pulse is the perfect moveset for this raid.

Hoopa (confined)

Source: The Pokemon Company

Hoopa’s confined form also works well in this raid if you don’t have the necessary candies and stardust to change forms. As a Psychic and Ghost-type, it resists Psychic and Normal-type damage and takes normal damage from Electric-type moves. Astonish and Shadow Ball are the ideal moves for Hoopa Confined in this raid.

hydragon

Source: The Pokemon Company

Deino’s final evolution, Hydreigon) is a pseudo-legendary from the Unova region. He appeared during Dragon Week, as well as other events, in eggs and as a Pokémon Go Battle League reward encounter, so most active players already have at least one or two power-ups. . As a Dark and Dragon-type, Deoxys’ Electric and Psychic-type attacks will deal reduced damage. Bite and Dark Pulse is the moveset you’re looking for in this raid.

Yveltal

Source: The Pokemon Company

Pokémon Y’s legendary pet Yveltal is the last of the best counters, but he’s certainly not a pushover. As a Dark- and Flying-type, it will take increased damage if the Deoxys you’re facing has Electric-type attacks, but it’s resistant to Psychic-type damage and can definitely take a hit. Although Pokemon Destruction has only had one raid run so far, it was fairly recent, so most active players should have at least one or two. Snarl and Dark Pulse are the moves you’ll want Yveltal to know for this raid.

tyrannite

Source: The Pokemon Company

Last but not least, Tyranitar performs well against Deoxys. This Dark and Rock-type pseudo-legendary is resistant to Psychic and Normal-type damage and has no weaknesses for Deoxys to exploit. Also, Tyranitar is super obtainable, having been in raids, community day, eggs, and tons of events. If you’re bringing Tyranitar with you, you’ll need Bite for the fast move and Crunch for the charged attack.

Backups?

Although most players can team up with the best counters, if you find a gap in your team, there are plenty of substitutes that work well in larger groups. Just make sure you’re dodging and one of the following might be a good alternative:

shadow pokemon?

Rebalancing Shadow Pokemon rescued from Team GO Rocket makes them excellent Crystal Cannons. Not only are his stats improved, but during special events it is possible to modify his moves. If you have any of the following Pokémon with the correct move, they will work well in this raid:

Note: While all of these Shadow Pokémon work well, the Mega Pokémon they pair with will make a big difference. If you’re paired with a Mega Gengar, the Ghost-type moves on this list will hit much harder, but Mega Houndoom, Mega Absol, or Mega Gyarados will do the same with Dark-types.

How many players does it take to beat Deoxys in Pokémon Go?

While other forms of Deoxys can be beaten with three or even two high level players, the Defense form has, as the name suggests, a much higher defense and therefore requires much more damage to beat. You should aim to have at least four players when you challenge this form of DNA Pokémon, and at least six if you’re a lower level or don’t have the best counters.
