As we already told you at the time, Ubisoft made the decision to not launching a new Assassin’s Creed this year 2016, breaking a tradition that had been celebrated since its second part back in 2009. The criticism received for the lack of ability to surprise and the various technical problems that hampered the latest games made the French company make the decision to require more time to dedicate to his next game, something that we applaud from here.
Ubisoft is studying the possibility that, at least for a time, the saga stopped having annual releases and Games are only released when they are ready. This was clear from the words of its president Yves Guillemot:
The goal is not to automatically return to the annual cycle, but to consider regular releases.
We intend to bring the saga constantly, but not year after year.
Other voices within Ubisoft believe that, once new methods and technologies are redefined that manage to achieve the objective of achieving a game with optimal technical and visual quality in less time than usual, it is possible that think about annual releases again.
For now, 2016 will be the year to consider many things, work hard on a new, more stable engine and offer fresh ideas for the game to come out in 2017 surprise us all and manage to recover the affection that many have been losing for the saga. And it will also be the year to promote the film that is being filmed at the moment and that will hit theaters at the end of the year.
