Intel announced a collaboration with Google today at its developer forum in San Francisco. Accordingly, they want to offer tablets and smartphones with Intel architecture from 2012.
The Medfield platform, which allows a flat construction and a fanless design, serves as the basis for Intel’s new Android family. Intel had tried several times to gain a foothold in the tablet and smartphone market with its processors, but ultimately always failed due to excessive energy consumption. When asked what should be different/better with the new Android devices, Intel CEO Paul Otellini replied: “This time we did it right!” Another new feature of the now announced generation of devices is the collaboration with Google. Andy Rubin personally came on stage, showed a prototype and assured the developers in attendance that Google would do everything in its power to optimally adapt Android to the Medfield platform.
