iOS 17.1: Here’s how to re-enable “Notification Sounds” on iPhone

The new iOS 17.1 has been released for iPhone and iPad, presenting various new features, problem resolutions but also the return of notification sounds.

In the current, just released version of iOS 17, i.e. iOS 17.1, Apple has once again made it possible to enable the old notification sounds on iPhone, which were removed with the first iOS 17.0 version.

Since many are unable to enable them correctly, or have not fully understood how this new feature works, we will explain it to you!

Info and Advice

First of all, Apple has reintroduced the old list of ringtones for the following settings functions: SMS Ringtone, Voicemail Messages, New Email, Sent Email, Calendar Alerts and Reminder Alerts.

Applications such as WhatsApp and Instagram manage the sound of their ringtones internally. In fact, it is not possible to modify a sound of a single application, except by the application itself, if it allows it.

Finally, remember to remove any errors on your iPhone, in order to correctly display the old notification sounds as soon as they return.

Guide

  1. Unlock your iPhone via Face ID or passcode;
  2. Enter the Settings/Sounds and haptic feedback section;
  3. Using this new page, select the desired ringtone for setup notifications, i.e. “SMS Ringtone, Voicemail Messages, New Email, Sent Email, Calendar Alerts and Reminder Alerts”;
  4. You will be able to select the old list again, which disappeared with iOS 17.0, via the “Classic” item.
