As reported by the news outlet Kotaku, the director of Final Fantasy XV, Hajime Tabata, has announced during a recent press conference that the title needs to reach at least 10 million units sold worldwide to be considered a success.
Most development companies make decisions about the future of your franchises, based on whether their previous deliveries were a success or a failure. Of course it is not likely that we will stop watching Final Fantasy content in the future, but if we do not reach the 10 million units sold, there is a possibility that Square Enix will rethink the concept of the series or a new installment.
Apparently 10 million is not too big a number compared to what the studio has had to invest in cinematic scenes, an animated series, a CGI film, a game for mobile devices and an impressive delivery for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In addition, the company hope to achieve this goal throughout the life of the game, so there is no rush.
Final Fantasy XV will be released this next September 30 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A PC version will also be considered after this release, but for now it is exclusive to home consoles.
