New rumors for PS4K: NEO codename, possible date and price

This is not the first time we have told you about the rumors of a possible PlayStation 4 review known as PS4.5 or PS4K, a new model with greater power to be able to play games in 4K resolution and be able to move titles for PlayStation VR with ease.

The latest rumors have come from NeoGaf and the American portal GiantBomb, which considers the leaked information to be true. The new model exists and at Sony it is known by the internal name of PlayStation Neo. The leak also includes technical characteristics of the new console and very interesting new information.

PlayStation Neo would improve the CPU, GPU and RAM of PS4. For the CPU, it would go from a 1.6 GHz 8-core Jaguar processor to frequencies of 2.1 GHz. The GPU, for its part, would increase from 18 to 36 units, going from 800 MHz to 911 MHz. Finally, the RAM would still have 8 GB GDDR5, but with a transfer speed that would go from 176 GB/s to 218 GB/s.

Sony would have imposed on developers that All games released for PS4 Neo are compatible with PS4 allowing two performance modes: Normal and Neo, so that all games run in acceptable conditions on both consoles but Neo users can enjoy better resolutions, refresh rates or additional effects, in addition to the possibility of incorporating 4K resolution if you wish.

Another imposition of the Japanese company is not to segment its users, so the two models would share the same PlayStation Network, same networks and servers, so everyone would play online regardless of their model. In addition, Sony has given an order to not release exclusive games for PlayStation Neo.

Finally there is talk of a date: Octoberin time for the launch of PlayStation VR, for a price of $399. It is expected that many of the games released for PS4 in the near future will have a patch to be improved for Neo, and it would not be surprising if some studios take the opportunity to launch updates that improve the performance of their great titles.

At the moment they are nothing more than rumors and we must take them as such, at least until Sony officially confirms or denies this information. We may not know anything for sure until E3 in June.
