Michael Jackson The Experience review

The new rhythm game brought to us by Ubisoft (which without hesitation launched itself into this new challenge given the success achieved by this category of games in recent years) will put us in the tight and glittering clothes of the late king of pop Michael Jacksonallowing us to dance to his best hits and recreate (at least as much as possible) his fantastic moves.

Once the game has started we will find ourselves in front of a MJ hardback and in the classic dance suit of the legendary king of pop.

Started the mode tours we will initially have only three “danceable” songs available that we can play three difficulty levels‘, and once you have obtained a certain number of coins (5 maximum per song, plus one if applicable crownassigned according to your performance as in any self-respecting music game) we will automatically see new songs appear in our playlist, for a total of seventeen fantastic music tracks.

Once the song has started we will find ourselves on our display PSP a MJ in miniature, all moves and cries.

To make it dance we will only have to use 2 keys, the circle and the left directional arrow (sometimes even i l and r triggers to perform quick pirouettes that will allow you to earn bonus points).
The use of only two buttons to press greatly limits the difficulty of the game and I believe, imho, that adding even just two more would have guaranteed greater satisfaction for players who are looking for a challenge rather than a pleasant diversion in this type of game.

At the end of more or less long key sequences we will be entitled to the “showtime“, during which we will be able to enjoy a series of steps carried out independently by our little one MJ portable.

At the end of each song, depending on the level of positivity of your performance and therefore the amount of coins and crowns obtained, you will unlock collectibles relating to the great videos and concerts of Michael Jackson (the red jacket of Beat It… The glove of Billie Jean… The white suit she danced in smooth Criminal at concerts etc etc…).

At the beginning of the game, if you are not familiar with this genre, it will be more than natural for you to try the easy level, but after playing the first two songs you will gladly throw yourself into the more difficult levels given how easy they are.

The songs are all very beautiful and are available in this order:

  • Another part of me
  • Rock with you
  • Thriller
  • Heal the world
  • Bad
  • Billie Jean
  • Will you be there
  • The way you make me feel
  • Don’t stop ’til you get enough
  • Black or white
  • The girl is mine
  • Remember the time
  • Wanna be startin’ somethin’
  • Streetwalkers
  • Leave me alone
  • Smooth Criminal
  • Beat it

The songs are all beautiful and in the background you can often see virtual reproductions of the real settings of some of the most famous and historic videos of the king of pop.

Unfortunately theextreme easeof the game only accentuates the main problem of the game, duration.

Let’s be clear, you can play all the songs on difficult level and get the maximum score in no more than two hours (as the undersigned did) and sincerely once you have done this there is nothing left to do other than putting the game away, the desire you will have to replay the entire tracklist at easier levels, just to get more coins and stars to be able to unlock all the items, it will be more or less nothing unless you are a die-hard fan or really have nothing better to do or no other game to play.

Graphically the game is quite cartoonish, MJ he is made rather well, as are his clothes (a note of demerit to the developers who chose to depict him always and only with the fair complexion (a lot) even in dances related to songs where his skin wasn’t properly white, as in Thriller for example … ).

Conclusions

Given the fact that if you are a fan of rhythm games in general or even just of the great MJ, you have to pick up this game regardlessI’m addressing non-fans by saying that the game is quite nice and can be played with pleasure, it’s certainly short if played immediately on the difficult level as done by myself, try playing it gradually and maybe it will last you longer.

In general I believe that everyone has dreamed of dancing and performing MJ’s moves, this game is the closest thing to this dream available for the Sony portable console.
